Zaccaria Responds to AFL-CIO Endorsement of Langevin

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Mark Zaccaria, republican candidate for Congress, responded today to the AFL-CIO Executive Board’s unanimous endorsement of Jim Langevin.

“The message this endorsement sends is clear,” said Zaccaria. “George Nee and the AFL-CIO board did not vote with the best interests of union members in mind; their decision was based upon which candidate will be the easiest to keep in their back pocket.”

The Executive Board of the Rhode Island AFL-CIO, representing over 80,000 union members across the state, met on Monday, April 19th and unanimously voted to endorse Representative Langevin’s bid for re-election to Rhode Island’s Second Congressional District seat in the November 2010 elections.

“Union members are working people, just like me, who must find ways to make their mortgage payments and pay their property taxes, things that George Nee and Jim Langevin are simply not worried about,” Zaccaria said. “As a former AFL-CIO member and a small business owner, I understand the real needs and concerns of the people on Main Street. Mr. Langevin and the AFL-CIO leadership have demonstrated that they have completely lost touch with Main Street America. By ignoring my message, Mr. Nee has ignored the will of the people, including his own union members. I look forward to meeting with many AFL-CIO members over the coming months and demonstrating how we can work together to create a better future.”

Mark Zaccaria is a resident of North Kingstown, RI, where he runs a small business. He and his wife, Ruth, have been married for 35 years. They have three grown children who are all residents of the state. Learn more about Mark’s candidacy for congress at the web site: www.zaccariaforuscongress.com.
